South By South West is underway once again in Austin, Texas – and tomorrow CMU’s Chris Cooke will take part in a session called ‘Getting Songwriters Paid – Fix The Leaky Pipes!’, based on the ‘Digital Dollar’ work of the UK’s Music Managers Forum.
He will present a super speedy briefing explaining how song royalties are paid by the streaming services, the complexities with the current system, and how data issues can stop songwriters from getting paid.
He’ll then discuss the problems and, more importantly, the short and long-term solutions with MMF’s Annabella Coldrick, AMRA’s Tomas Ericsson, and artist manager and former Hipgnosis Chief Catalogue Officer Amy Thomson.
It all takes place tomorrow, 14 Mar, at 4pm in Room 18AB of the Austin Convention Center. If you’re at SXSW, do check it out! Info here.
