Aretha Franklin placed 20 singles atop Billboard’s R&B and Hip-Hop songs chart during her career that began in the 1950s. Her catalog quite frankly is the soul of American music with two of her hits reaching the top of the Billboard Hot 100. Franklin earned a Presidential Medal of Freedom and the National Medal of Arts in 1987, she became the first female inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and who could forget when she brought the house down at Kennedy Center in 2016, and even had President Obama in tears.
