Nigerian Afrobeats rapper-singer-songwriter Rema earns his first No. 1 on Billboard’s Latin Airplay chart with the Feid collab “Bubalu,” which rises from No. 2 to lead the Jan. 13-dated list. The single is also Rema’s first chart appearance.
The Spanglish “Bubalu,” in which Rema also sings in Spanish for the first time, is the fourth single from Feid’s Mor No Le Temas a La Oscuridad, which rose to No. 4 on Top Latin Albums in October. The song likewise became Rema’s first entry on a Billboard Latin chart when it debuted at No. 39 also in October on the multimetric Hot Latin Songs chart, later peaking at No. 28 (Jan. 6-dated list).
The Afrobeats-permeated “Bubalu” leads the overall Latin Airplay tally with a 14% increase in audience impressions, to 10.8 million, earned in the U.S. during the Dec. 29-Jan. 4 tracking week, according to Luminate.
