Country trio Lady A recently opened up to Audacy’s Katie & Company about new music on the way, following their latest song releases “Love You Back” (which is currently at No. 49 on the Billboard Country Airplay chart) and “A Love Song.”
“We’re gettin’ our plans together, we have ‘Love You Back’ out to radio, and then ‘A Love Song’ is also another song that’s out, and you can stream that everywhere,” the group’s Hillary Scott said. “Those are two, really pillar songs from the project. We’ll just kind of see how it lays out, and then we’ll release the whole thing.”
“For us, we’re in such an appreciation spot in our career,” Scott’s bandmate, Charles Kelley, added. “We’re definitely going in a nostalgic direction. I think we tend to do that a lot. It’s a really warm record.”
He noted that he and his Lady A bandmates Scott and Dave Haywood have recorded half of the album, saying, “We’ll just continue to over the early [part] of this year and keep trying to chase what we feel are the best songs.”
The album will follow the trio’s 2021 album What a Song Can Do, which yielded the top 15 Country Airplay hit “Like a Lady.” Since releasing their self-titled debut album in 2008, Lady A has notched 11 No. 1 Country Airplay hits. They’ve also earned two top 10 Billboard Hot 100 hits, with 2010’s “Need You Now” rising to No. 2 and 2011’s “Just a Kiss” rising to No. 7.
The group is slated to perform at the upcoming iHeartCountry Festival in May. In a recent interview with Billboard, the trio offered their take on why country music had such a huge moment in 2023.
“I think it’s just the blend of all the different influences,” Kelley said. “We grew up in the playlist era, where you’d make a mixtape, and so I grew up loving everything. I feel like when we started our band, it was like a little bit of the Eagles meets Fleetwood Mac meets The Chicks meets Rascal Flatts. It was everything coming together into this sound.”
