The wait is over for Schoolboy Q fans, as he’s officially announced his first project in five years.
The Top Dawg Entertainment rapper revealed plans for his next LP with a cinematic trailer that arrived on Thursday (Feb. 1). Q’s sixth studio album — titled Blue Lips — is slated to arrive on March 1.
The clip gives fans a chance to see the tracklist as well, which boasts 17 songs in total — but possible features were kept hidden — including titles “Smile,” “Love Birds” and “Movie.”
Soundtracked by an atmospheric beat, the trailer comes to a close with a dictionary definition of “blue lips.” “Adj. 1. speechless, especially as the temporary result of shock or some strong emotion. 2. (of a person or mood) shocked, speechless, or embarrassed; the crowd gave me blue lips,” the screen reads. “n. 1. a particular attitude toward or way of regarding something. 2. coon; they were coonin. v. 1. become fully aware of (something) as a fact; understand clearly.”
Blue Lips will serve as Schoolboy Q’s follow-up to 2019’s Crash Talk. He received plenty of love from his music peers in his Instagram comment section following the announcement, as A$AP Rocky, Tinashe, Joey Bada$$, Isaiah Rashad and Doe Boy were among those to chime in with their excitement.
The avid golfer previously teased having “something special” up his sleeve in December when asked about his future plans by TMZ at a toy drive.
“Oh man, something special,” he said. “I’ma be back. I’ll be back. I will be back.”
