On Friday afternoon (June 28), Fred Again.. appeared on the Strummerville stage to perform a repertoire of ambient music, most of which are unreleased music alongside tracks from ‘Secret Life’, his collaborative album with Brian Eno.

The set was completely unannounced – after the initial excitement from the crowd’s reception, the scene became tranquil as Fred Again.. led the seated audience into a meditative afternoon amidst the festivities.

The ‘Rumble’ artist was not promoted as part of the Glastonbury line-up. However, as reported by The Sun, rumours had begun circulating about a possible surprise set after he was spotted at Bristol Airport on Thursday (June 27).

Yes, Fred Again.. played a secret set at Strummerville.
Yes, it’s finished.
Yes, we knew (very late on).
We wouldn’t have shared anyway as it would have swamped the venue.

Despite his presence on the festival grounds, however, Fred Again.. has confirmed he has no plans to perform for the remainder of the festival weekend. “I’m not playin anywhere else btw!” he wrote on Instagram Stories. “I’m gonna go and find some rum and ukg”.

Surprise set anticipation hasn’t winded down though – speculation is rife that Kings of Leon and Kasabian will take to the Glastonbury Festival stages this weekend. There also still exists a gap on the Woodsies stage schedule for Saturday (June 29), leaving fans guessing.

The producer will be performing at the forthcoming Reading & Leeds 2024 festival this August, in a headlining slot alongside Lana Del Rey, Liam Gallagher, Catfish And The Bottlemen, Blink-182 and Gerry Cinnamon.

Last week, Fred Again.. performed his first headline stadium show in the US, during which he briefly stopped his performance to chase fans off the stage.

NME gave ‘Secret Life’ three stars, saying: “Released just a few weeks after Fred closed Coachella with a set of thunderous dance and techno alongside Four Tet and Skrillex, ‘Secret Life’ sees him handbrake turn once again into ambient haze, assisted by the man who made it all happen for him. This surprise album – despite its frequent beauty – works best as a puzzle piece rather than a standout record in its own right.”
