Coldplay have announced a new single, ‘We Pray’, featuring artists including Little Simz and Burna Boy, weeks after first showcasing it at Glastonbury.

The five-piece made the announcement on social media this afternoon (August 6), sharing that the track will be out on August 23 and features Palestinian-Chilean singer Elyanna and Argentine singer Tini as well as the aforementioned artists.

It’ll be the second single from their upcoming tenth studio album, ‘Moon Music’, set for release on October 4. It follows lead single ‘Feels Like I’m Falling In Love’, which came out on June 21. Back in January, the band discussed ‘Moon Music’, revealing that it was nearly finished – and calling it a “second [2021 album] Music of the Spheres volume”.

Coldplay first debuted the song during their Glastonbury headline set on June 29, and were joined by both Simz and Elyanna, with clips of Burna Boy shown in the background. At the time, it was rumoured that the song could be called Supernova, while NME noted the refrain, “And so we pray” throughout the chorus.

In a four-star review of Coldplay’s set at the festival, NME said, “With a run of guest turns, some dad banter and an emotional Michael J Fox collab, Chris Martin and co. reach to make their fifth headline set one for the books.”

They added: “There’s a question mark over the future, but tonight was a good crack at making history with a set that felt like home.”

Frontman Martin previously spoke to NME about the pressure of releasing new music in 2021, describing it as “intense”. He said: “We’re going to make 12 albums. Because it’s a lot to pour everything into making them. I love it and it’s amazing, but it’s very intense too. I feel like because I know that challenge is finite, making this music doesn’t feel difficult, it feels like, ‘This is what we’re supposed to be doing’.
