From Florida to London! To celebrate the final night of her Eras Tour European leg at London’s Wembley Stadium on Tuesday night (Aug. 20), Taylor Swift welcomed a special guest onstage.
For The Tortured Poets Department hit, “Florida!!!,” Swift surprised fans with her collaborator, Florence Welch of Florence + The Machine. The duo performed the track in coordinating white flowing dresses. “I need to forget, so take me to Florida/ I’ve got some regrets, I’ll bury them in Florida/ Tell me I’m despicable, say it’s unforgivable/ At least the dolls are beautiful, f— me up, Florida,” they sang together on the track.
In an interview with British Vogue earlier this year, Welch explained that she didn’t know the “scale” of Swift’s fame. “There’s the sort of bigness of [Taylor Swift the phenomenon], and then there’s the Taylor I spend time with in the studio, who is just the sweetest and most down to earth,” she told the publication.
She continued, “We had such a fun time. And then when it came out I was like, ‘Oh, s—!’”
Swift also previously explained the narrative that inspired “Florida!!!” during an interview with iHeartRadio. “‘Florida!!!’ is a song I wrote with Florence and the Machine, and I think I was coming up with this idea of like, what happens when your life doesn’t fit, or your choices you’ve made catch up to you,” Swift said.
She added that she’s a fan of Dateline and noticed how “people have these crimes that they commit, where do they immediately skip town and go to? They go to Florida.”
