Selena Gomez attended a high school volleyball game in Colorado after seeing a sign requesting she sing the US national anthem for its players.

Gomez surprised the Telluride High School girls volleyball team with a visit to their school while she was in town for the Telluride Film Festival on Saturday (August 31).

She took to Instagram to post a photo of the sign where she was requested to come to one of the team’s games to sing the National Anthem.

A bright orange poster, adorned with hearts and signed with a coach’s email, was stapled to a bulletin board.

“They asked!! Couldn’t help it, it’s my first time in Telluride!” she wrote in the caption.

While it is unknown if Gomez sang for the volleyball team, she shared a video of her arrival at the court and the school’s gym. See more footage of the moment taken by fans below.

The singer and actor was visiting the Colorado town to promote her film Emilia Pérez, for which she won the Best Actress prize at the Cannes Film Festival.

Directed by Jacques Audiard (A Prophet, Rust and Bone), Emilia Pérez is a musical crime comedy about a woman who must help an escaped Mexican cartel leader undergo sex reassignment surgery.

Following its premiere on May 18, the film received one of the festival’s longest-standing ovations and won the Jury Prize. It has since been acquired by Netflix.

Recently, Gomez admitted that she was “brought to tears” hearing Meryl Streep sing in Only Murders In The Building.

Gomez has just received her first-ever Emmy nomination in the acting category for her role in the final season of the acclaimed mystery comedy-drama and spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about the nod and the show’s forthcoming fourth season.

Streep joined the show’s cast in its third season as Broadway star Loretta Durkin and is set to return for the fourth installment.

On the subject of what working with Streep was like, Gomez said: “She was so excited, and when she came on set, she told everybody that she loves the show, and I don’t even think I spoke the first day she was around, I was just admiring her. She’s an inspiration, and she’s someone who is incredibly talented while being very humble, and professional and kind. I’ve learned so much from her just by her being Meryl.”

She continued: “My favorite moment was watching Meryl sing onstage. That was chilling, and she would do it a cappella, live every time, and I cried. I wasn’t in the scene, but I was there sitting in the audience, and I was completely moved and was brought to tears. Just the way she commits to her craft in every way is remarkable. It was beautiful.”
