The reunited Dismemberment Plan. Blonde Redhead, Sunflower Bean, Les Savy Fav, Model/Actriz and Man Man are the first acts announced for the inaugural United Sounds NYC festival, which will overtake Pioneer Works in the New York neighborhood of Red Hook on Oct. 25-26. Tickets go on sale tomorrow (Sept. 6).

The event was conceived by United Sounds, which was launched by former Siren Music Festival co-founder/programmer Diane Perini in tandem with Shay Vishawadia and Dipesh Sinha. “We wanted to start an annual music festival in New York City during the fall season, in the spirit of great indie-focused events of the past like CMJ,” says Perini. “Our goal is to bring celebrated independent artists and music fans together for a fun weekend in a great setting. We were drawn to Red Hook to launch the event because it has such a welcoming seaside community vibe, that feels like you’re out of the city, yet it’s right there across the water from lower Manhattan.”

Monobloc and Peel Dream Magazine will also perform at the event alongside DJs, neighborhood events and additional artists yet to be announced. “We are too excited to wait until 2025 to start launching the events, festivals and concerts that we are envisioning,” Vishawadia said. “We see the festival as a plant-our-flag moment and we are looking forward to expanding United Sounds not only as the annual festival, but also producing a full calendar of events in NYC and additional markets.”

For the Dismemberment Plan, the show extends their unexpected return to performing this fall after a nearly 10-year break. The beloved Washington, D.C.-reared quartet will be back in action tonight at the Anthem in their former hometown and will also perform Oct. 11 at the Best Friends Forever festival in Las Vegas.

Although all four members no longer work in music by day, they get recognized just enough to confirm there’s still interest from fans in seeing the Plan play again. “I work at Capital One now and I’m always surprised when I’m randomly in a meeting and someone’s like, oh, you’re in Dismemberment Plan? You kind of forget that there’s people out there that like your old records,” group member Eric Axelson recently told SPIN. “Plus, a lot of people never saw us. I think a lot of folks are excited to come see us play.”
