The Recording Academy has unveiled its nominations list for the 2025 Grammys, and some pretty huge names weren’t on it — at least, not in all of the Big Four categories fans might have been expecting.
Though stars such as Taylor Swift, Billie Eillish, Beyoncé, Charli XCX and more all received wide recognition on the list of nods announced Friday (Nov. 8) — with Chappell Roan and Sabrina Carpenter both up for song, record and album of the year as well as best new artist next year — other A-listers were notably absent from one or all of those major divisions. Ariana Grande, for instance, didn’t earn anything in the Big Four despite producing two Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 hits (“Yes, And?” and “We Can’t Be Friends”) from her Billboard 200-topping album Eternal Sunshine, while Shaboozey’s 16-week-and-counting No. 1 single “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” earned song-of-the-year shine, but was passed over completely for record of the year.
Similar situations arose for “Die With a Smile” collaborators Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars, as well as Benson Boone, each of whom was recognized in certain Big Four categories, but were paid dust in others that would’ve made sense given their respective charting prowesses in 2024. Hozier also had a huge year with “Too Sweet,” but was treated sourly by the song and record of the year categories, while LISA and Sexyy Red were notably absent from this year’s class of best new artist hopefuls. Plus, Dua Lipa received nothing for Radical Optimism, nor did Post Malone get any Big Four praise for his banner F-1 Trillion year (though he did add some song and record nods to his belt thanks to his “Fortnight” duet with Swift).
