Yesterday (November 20), Apple Music released a snippet of an upcoming Zane Lowe interview with BLACKPINK’s Rosé. In the new clip, the Korean-Australian K-pop singer spoke about the inspiration behind ‘toxic till the end’, a new song off her upcoming debut studio album ‘rosie’.

Originally titled ‘the ex’, Rosé shared that she wrote the song after deciding that it was “about time” after spending years discussing the relationship that inspired it with her friends. “We’ve talked about the ex a bit too much, it’s about time that we write a song called ‘the ex’,” she said, explaining that she changed the song’s title after coming up with a “better punchline”.

Lowe then asked the singer if she faced any challenges writing the song from such a personal experience. “I think that was something that was living with me for a few years, I personally don’t think I deserved it, but it was there,” said Rosé. “I’m actually shocked that today I can wake up and be like, ‘I don’t talk about that anymore’.”

“It was actually easy for me to talk about it because it was the thing I was talking about all the time,” she continued, adding that she “hated” how often she talked about it, but it had become such a frequent topic that they became known as “the ex” among her friends. “It was the easiest [thing to talk about], like, I needed to get it off my chest.”

Last month, the BLACKPINK star announced that she would be releasing her debut solo album ‘rosie’ on December 6. She has since released one single from the record, ‘APT.’ featuring Bruno Mars, and will drop its second single ‘Number One Girl’ tomorrow.
