Austin Butler appears to be gearing up for a new role, and is committing to the part with a dramatic new hairstyle.
In a video shared to social media by fans on Thursday, December 5, the Elvis actor was spotted by fans as he was out on a walk. Known for his lush, blond locks, Butler was seen with his head shaven. Though his interaction with fans was seemingly brief, he posed for some selfies with them.

This isn’t the first time the Oscar nominee has rocked a bald look. Last year, he shocked viewers of Dune: Part Two as Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen, with no hair or eyebrows. Though, he admitted in a January 2024 conversation on Jimmy Kimmel Live! that he didn’t actually shave his head or brows for the role, as he was set to film The Bikeriders immediately after production wrapped on Dune: Part Two.
“It was so liberating not having eyebrows. You don’t realize how much they weigh you down,” Butler joked at the time. “I was just streamlined.”
Per IMDB, Butler is currently linked to five upcoming films — The Barrier, American Speed, Eddington, City on Fire, and Caught Stealing. It’s unclear which, if any, of these movies he decided to shed his hair for.
But fans know that Butler is one to give his roles his all. So much so, after filming Elvis, he had to hire a dialogue coach to help him get rid of the accent he had been speaking in for years.
“I was just trying to remember who I was,” said Butler in a February 2024 conversation on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert. “All I thought about was Elvis for three years. And then I had that week off, and then I flew to London, and at that time it was COVID, so I was quarantined for 10 days. I thought, ‘All right, just pour all this energy into learning about World War II now.’”
