System Of A Down‘s Daron Malakian has responded to Nikki Glaser’s Golden Globes joke about the band.

Glaser – who served as the 2025 Golden Globes host last night (January 5) – went on to introduce the legendary actress Glenn Close who was set to present the award for Best Motion Picture – Drama. While introducing the actor and listing her accolades, Glaser took the time to sneak in a mention of the Armenian-American heavy metal band.

“To present our next award please welcome, from Netflix’s Back in Action, three-time Golden Globe Award winner, Hollywood icon and former drummer for System of a Down, Glenn Close,” Glaser said.

Malakian – the guitarist and second vocalist of System Of A Down – took to his official Instagram account to share a video of the moment and to add on to the comedian’s joke.

“Bet you didn’t know!!!!Bet you didn’t know!!!!!Somewhere between our first drummer and John, Glenn Close was tearing shit up on the drums for us!,” read the caption of the post.

Fans took to the comment section of the post with some going along with the joke while others seemed genuinely confused.

“True. The iconic drum part in Toxicity was a Glenn Creation. So obvious,” wrote one fan while another shared: “Hell yeah that’s Glenn Closian.”

Another fan commented: “Bruh I took this serious lol, only Andy and John were drummers for system,” while a different fan said: “I’m so confused someone explain😭.”

In other news, System Of A Down recently shared details of a South American tour slated to take place in the spring. The new dates arrived shortly after the band’s announcement of their three one-off shows planned for the summer – a show in New Jersey with KoRn, a date in Chicago with Avenged Sevenfold and a stop in Toronto with Deftones.
