David Schwimmer has said he once served Rod Stewart divorce papers, when the actor was working a temporary job in his university days.
During a new interview on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, the Friends star looked back on his time as a waiter in Chicago, saying he had “so many jobs” in his younger years.
“One summer after my freshman year in college, I was just looking for work,” Schwimmer recalled. “And my mum said, ‘Well, you can be a process server for me’. My mum was a divorce lawyer.”
He continued: “So I was the guy who would pop out of the bushes and serve you divorce papers. At the time I was 18, and I’m like James Bond. I’m not James Bond! ‘Cause you’re tipped off as to where they might be.”
Schwimmer went on to recall serving one particular famous musician. “Once… thank goodness I’ve never run into him since,” he told Colbert, “but I served Rod Stewart. I don’t even know if he knows. I don’t think he knows.”
Colbert joked: ‘He knows now.”
Stewart separated from his first wife, US actor and former model Alana Stewart, in 1984 after five years of marriage. In 1990, he tied the knot with model Rachel Hunter before the couple finalised their divorce in 2006.
The singer has been married to his current wife, model and presenter Penny Lancaster, since 2007.
Schwimmer also spoke to Colbert about starring in Disney+ and Hulu’s Goosebumps: The Vanishing. You can watch the full interview clip in the video above.
Meanwhile, the actor’s former Friends co-star Lisa Kudrow recently revealed that the six core members of the cast only met up once in the 17 years after the hit sitcom ended.
In other news, Rod Stewart is set to take on the coveted Legend Slot at Glastonbury Festival 2025 this summer. The iconic artist explained late last year that “it’s going to cost [him] a fortune to do it”.
“But I don’t care if it cost me $1million (£789,440), I would have done it,” he said. “This is a great honour. It really is the greatest honour.”
Stewart had previously confirmed that he was done with “large-scale world tours”, but said he had “no desire to retire” fully.
It was later revealed that Nile Rodgers & Chic would be playing in the slot immediately after Stewart on the Pyramid Stage. Neil Young has also been confirmed as the first headliner, after he initially pulled out of the festival.
