Fresh off their first US tour and gearing up for their third album, Liverpoolâs Courting defy easy-categorisation; proving themselves as one of the most exciting rising indie bands.
From the glitchy hyperpop-punk of their debut album âGuitar Musicâ to the more polished ambition of their second record âNew Last Nameâ, theyâve kept evolving, blending sweetness and cynicism into unpredictable ear-wormy tracks.
Their new single, âAfter Youâ, keeps things simple while packing in intensity. Frontman Sean Murphy-OâNeill explains that it was the first song they wrote for new album âLust For Lifeâ. âIt is an exercise in direct songwriting, an attempt to create something very straightforwardâ, he adds.Â
âWe wanted the wall of guitars and the drums to feel almost hypnotic. A lot of the album is about the idea of duality and, lyrically, the song can be read in either a stalkerish voice or a romantic voice. Itâs all up to youâ.Â
The result is a track that fills the room, the weight of the guitars balanced by a hypnotic lyrical ease.
That new album – âLust For Life, Or: How To Thread The Needle And Come Out The Other Side To Tell The Storyâ – is out 14 Mar.
