Music was at the forefront of the films Wicked and the Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown, which scored 10 and eight Oscar nominations respectively this morning (Jan. 23). The 97th edition of the event will take place March 2 at Los Angeles’ Dolby Theatre and will be hosted by comedian Conan O’Brien.
Wicked was nominated for Best Picture, Best Actress (Cynthia Erivo) and Best Supporting Actress (Ariana Grande), as well as Best Original Score (John Powell and Stephen Schwartz). A Complete Unknown was recognized for Best Picture, Best Actor (Timothée Chalamet as Dylan), Best Supporting Actor (Edward Norton as Pete Seeger) and Best Supporting Actress (Monica Barbaro as Joan Baez).

For Best Original Song, the nominees are “Never Too Late” from Elton John: Never Too Late (music and lyrics by Elton John, Brandi Carlile, Andrew Watt and Bernie Taupin), “El Mal” (music by Clément Ducol and Camille, lyrics by Ducol, Camille and Jacques Audiard) and “Mi Camino” (music and lyrics by Ducol and Camille) from Emilia Pérez, “Like a Bird” from Sing Sing (music and lyrics by Abraham Alexander and Adrian Quesada) and “The Journey” from The Six Triple Eight (music and lyrics by Diane Warren).
The other Best Original Scores nominees are The Brutalist (Daniel Blumberg), Conclave (Volker Bertelmann), The Wild Robot (Kris Bowers) and Emilia Pérez (Ducol and Camille), which leads the overall field with 13.
Better Man, in which British superstar Robbie Williams is portrayed by a CGI monkey, earned a nomination for Best Visual Effects.
