The nearly impossible-to-classify rock outfit Deafheaven, which have been compared to everyone from Metallica to Slowdive, are back with their first new music in nearly four years. “Magnolia,” a ferocious slice of shrieked vocals, machine gun drumming and thick walls of guitar, heralds the March 28 release of the band’s next album, Lonely People With Power, on new label Roadrunner Records.

The 12-track set was produced by Justin Meldal-Johnsen, who was behind the boards for Deafheaven’s 2021 album Infinite Granite. That project reached the top 20 on Billboard‘s Top Independent and Top Rock Albums charts.
