🎧 Approved: SASAMI

SASAMI is a master of sonic transformation. A classically trained musician with a penchant for genre-defying experimentation, the Los Angeles-based artist has spent her career pushing boundaries – blending ballads with industrial noise, heavy metal with haunting pop. 

Following her 2019 eponymous debut, her music has evolved into lush, emotionally charged experimental pop with modern country storytelling. Now, with her new single ‘In Love With A Memory’, SASAMI brings those themes to the forefront in a beautifully haunting duet with Clairo.

Inspired by Japanese and Korean ‘noraebang’ karaoke ballads and the atmospheric worlds of David Lynch, the track places SASAMI’s haunting vocals in delicate interplay with Clairo’s, creating a cinematic duet that feels suspended between the living and the spectral. 

With arpeggiated runs and vintage synth melodies, the song builds a swirling atmosphere before culminating in a guitar solo that punctuates the longing and tension with something Daft Punk-esque.

SASAMI describes the track as capturing a “timeless crooning feeling” with an undercurrent of tension. “I can picture my mom in a Julee Cruise-type setting – single, jazz lounge spotlight and cigarette smoke hanging stale in the air”, she says.
