Suede performing live on stage

Suede are set to share previously unreleased track ‘Blinded’ as part of their new ‘Sci-Fi Lullabies Vol.2’ collection for Record Store Day 2025.

The forthcoming double LP serves as the follow-up to the band’s 1997 compilation ‘Sci-Fi Lullabies’, which features B-sides from the singles that were released from their first three albums.

‘Vol.2’ was announced yesterday (February 6) as part of the extensive RSD ’25 list – also featuring exclusive vinyl drops from the likes of OasisCharli XCXFred Again..The CureGorillaz and Taylor Swift.

These will be available when the annual event returns for its 18th edition on Saturday April 12.

Announcing the forthcoming ‘Sci-Fi Lullabies’ follow-up on social media, Suede wrote: “This new collection of 19 B-sides and bonus tracks from the period 1997 to 2023 has been curated by Brett Anderson and includes the previously unreleased track, ‘Blinded’.

“This double LP will be available on clear vinyl. Don’t miss out – find your local independent participating record shop at recordstoreday.co.uk.”

According to Setlist.FM, Suede have played ‘Blinded’ live on just one occasion in 2019.

A listing on Record Store Day’s website reads: Where ‘Sci-Fi Lullabies’ left off after ‘Coming Up’ [1996], ‘Volume 2’ collects the crop of bonus tracks released from ‘Head Music’, in 1999 to 2022’s ‘Autofiction’.

“This collection also debuts a previously unreleased track, ‘Blinded’, making its first-ever appearance here. Pressed on double 140g clear vinyl, with complete lyrics, ‘Sci-Fi Lullabies: Volume 2’ is a must-have for Suede fans and collectors.”

The first volume of ‘Sci-Fi Lullabies’ reached Number Nine on the UK albums chart, and earned high critical acclaim upon its release. In 2021, NME‘s Mark Beaumont gave the compilation a shout-out while calling for “a return of the good, old-fashioned B-side”.

He said that Brett Anderson and co, as well as the likes of The Smiths and Oasis, “were among the few bands who cared more about the entire package than individual single tracks, refusing to let the quality control dip on their B-sides”.

“Entire B-side albums by such groups rivalled their official releases (looking at your, Suede’s ‘Sci-Fi Lullabies’),” the feature added.

In 2014, the compilation landed at Number Three on NME‘s list of 30 killer B-side and rarities albums you might’ve missed list. “[Suede’s] B-sides, from ‘Killing Of A Flashboy’ to ‘My Dark Star’ to ‘Europe Is Our Playground’, were as exciting as anything Britpop could muster,” it read.

Speaking to NME around the release of their latest album, 2022’s ‘Autofiction’, frontman Andreson looked ahead to what’s to come. “The next record that we’re planning to write, and have already started, is much more experimental,” he explained.

“I don’t really know if there’s an arc with [‘Autofiction’]. I’m not seeing it as a selection of albums. You just have to do it one at a time, really. I do think of those three records as [being] together, especially ‘Night Thoughts’ and ‘The Blue Hour’, but the next record will be completely different.”

“The singer went on to suggest that Suede could be much more experiential on their next project, telling NME: “I’d love to think that our most daring work is ahead of us.

“That’s a really exciting prospect – that a band at our stage of our career haven’t just settled for running through the motions. I love making new records: it makes my heart beat faster, it’s what I get up for in the morning.”

Last summer, Suede announced that the recording of “noisy”, “unhinged” and “raw” new album was underway. They debuted a preview of the record at the Isle Of Wight Festival in June, playing a new track titled ‘Antidepressants’.

Last year, Suede released a 30th anniversary edition of their 1994 second album ‘Dog Man Star’, containing bonus tracks from that era.

In other news, Sam Fender has been announced as the official ambassador of Record Store Day UK. He’ll release a new six-track 12-inch vinyl EP to celebrate, ‘Me And The Dog’, featuring two new songs.
