Bon Iver has announced his long-awaited fifth studio album, ‘SABLE, fABLE’. Find all the details below.
The Justin Vernon-led project is due to release the 12-track record on April 11 via Jagjaguwar, marking their first full-length project since 2019’s ‘i, i’. You can pre-order/pre-save it here.
This Friday (February 14) will see Vernon share a new track, ‘Everything Is Peaceful Love’, from the forthcoming LP. It’ll be accompanied by an official music video, shot and edited by filmmaker John Wilson.
‘SABLE, fABLE’ begins with the three songs that made up Bon Iver’s 2024 EP ‘SABLE’: ‘Things Behind Things Behind Things’, ‘S P E Y S I D E’ and ‘Awards Season’. Additionally, the album will contain a collaboration with Haim frontwoman Danielle Haim, titled ‘If Only I Could Wait’.
Other track titles include ‘Short Story’, ‘Day One’ (feat. Dijon and Flock Of Dimes), ‘There’s A Rhythm’ and ‘Au Revoir’.
Produced by Justin Vernon and Jim-E Stack, ‘SABLE, fABLE’ was primarily recorded at Vernon’s April Base studio in Wisconsin. A press release notes that the “conceptual genesis” for the LP occurred in early February 2022, “when Stack arrived at the Base with Danielle Haim”.
It adds: “Snowed in for multiple days, Vernon and Haim’s voices intertwined on ‘If Only I Could Wait’, a duet with crucial perspective, about not having the strength to be the best version of yourself outside the glow of new love.”
Last year’s ‘SABLE’ EP served as a “prologue” to Bon Iver’s upcoming fifth full-length effort.

“Like fables, each track instils a lesson, and ‘…fABLE’ is about the selfless rhythm required when one is enmeshed with another person or lover – a patient commitment to finding the pace for betterness, and togetherness,” the description continues.
“Gone are the evasive and dense layers of sound that guarded Justin Vernon’s voice on ‘i, i’ and [2016’s] ’22, A Million’. The previous four albums were a cycle of seasons that is now complete; ‘SABLE, fABLE’ is a canvas for truth laid bare.”
‘Everything Is Peaceful Love’ has been called “the portrait of a man overwhelmed with happiness upon meeting the one he will fall in love with”.
“But the shadow of ‘SABLE, fABLE’ still looms, and old feelings can return, even after one has put in the work to reset and start fresh,” it states.

In a four-star review of Bon Iver’s 2024 EP, NME wrote: “‘SABLE’ can serve as a reminder of the light at the end of the tunnel, and a reason to push through adversity – to move forward onto a new chapter.”
Since releasing ‘i, i’ in 2019, Vernon has worked on numerous collaborative projects. In 2020, he featured on Taylor Swift’s sister albums ‘Folklore’ and ‘Evermore’, and performed ‘Exile’ with the pop star during his show 2022 show in London. He also featured on The National’s 2022 single ‘Weird Goodbyes’, and contributed to Zach Bryan‘s 2023 song ‘Boys Of Faith’.
More recently, Vernon joined forces with Charli XCX for a new version of ‘I Think About It All The Time’ on her ‘Brat’ remix album. In 2021, Big Red Machine – his side-project with The National‘s Aaron Dessner – released their second record, ‘How Long Do You Think It’s Gonna Last?’.
