Shavo Odadjian, Tom Morello and Slash

Footage has emerged of Tom Morello, Slash and Shavo Odadjian performing covers of AC/DC in a bid to raise funds for those impacted by the recent LA wildfires. Check it out below.

The Rage Against The Machine, Guns N’ Roses and System Of A Down legends all united as part of the two fundraising shows organised by Morello last week.

The first was held on Thursday (February 6) at the iconic House Of Blues in Anaheim, and the second took place on Friday (7) at the Fonda Theatre in Los Angeles. At both, the trip broke out a cover of the classic track ‘Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap’, which was shared by AC/DC back in 1976.

Other covers were performed by the three across the two nights, including renditions of songs by John Lennon, Rage Against The Machine, Bruce Springsteen, Woody Guthrie, Måneskin and more.

Another special guest on the nights included Wu-Tang Clan’s own RZA, who broke out a rendition of the group’s 1993 track ‘Wu-Tang Clan Ain’t Nuthing Ta F’ Wit’. Check out footage from the shows below.

The performances with Slash and Odadjian last week arent the only charity gigs that Tom Morello has lined-up for this year, as it was also confirmed last week that he would be among the huge list of names joining Black Sabbath in Birmingham this July for their final-ever live show.

For the event, the soloist and former Rage Against The Machine guitarist will be serving as music director, as well as taking to the stage.

Speaking to NME at Villa Park shortly after the announcement of Black Sabbath’s final gig, Ozzy Osbourne’s wife and manager Sharon opened up about Morello’s involvement as music director and said: “He is so knowledgeable on all different genres of music, but especially Sabbath.

She also revealed some extra details about how his appearance will look on the night, confirming that he will be performing alongside Smashing PumpkinsBilly Corgan and Tool drummer Danny Carey – the latter of which was not yet announced in the initial line-up.

Other huge names appearing at the event include Metallica, Slayer, Pantera, Lamb Of God, Mastodon, Alice In Chains, Halestorm, recent Grammy-winners Gojira and more. All profits from the one-day event will go to charities Cure Parkinson’s, Birmingham Children’s Hospital and Acorn Children’s Hospice – a Children’s Hospice supported by Aston Villa. The covers of AC/DC last week come following Tom Morello speaking to NME while at Download Festival last summer and revealing which protest songs he would regard as the greatest of all time.

“Off the top of my head, some of my favourites would be ‘Imagine’ by John Lennon — I stopped by Abbey Road yesterday so that’s on my mind — ‘Biko’ by Peter Gabriel, ‘Fight The Power’ by Public Enemy. There are also probably a few Rage Against The Machine Songs that make the list too,” he began.

“The first thing that makes a great protest song is that it’s a great song. Nobody wants to hear a college lecture with a beat to it, there has to be an artistry there and an authenticity and a power and a chemistry behind it. All of those songs have that.”

As for Shavo Odadjian, the System Of A Down icon spoke to NME recently about the comments made by frontman Serj Tankian, which speculated that the band could soon have a “fresh start in a brand new way”.

“I don’t know what he means by that. We’ve done things a certain way in our career where it’s always going in a new direction. Every time we do something new, it’s in a direction you don’t expect,” he said. “Process-wise, we’ll have to see when we get together. If it goes in a way that works for one person but not the others, we won’t do it. It has to work for all four of us.”
