The poignant trailer for new John Lennon documentary Borrowed Time has been released – watch it exclusively on NME.
Borrow Time: Lennon’s Last Decade is an ambitious new documentary that uses archive footage, never-before-seen interviews and eyewitness accounts to explore the break-up of The Beatles and what Lennon did next.
“Follow the legend as he evolves beyond The Beatles, creating revolutionary music and standing at the forefront of anti-war protests that would make him one of the most influential pop culture icons of all time,” reads the official synopsis.
It was directed by Alan G. Parker (Hello Quo, It Was Fifty Years Ago Today… Sgt Pepper And Beyond) and features classic interviews with Lennon, Yoko Ono and Paul McCartney. As well as that, it also includes new insights from Tony Bramwell (Apple Records CEO), Earl Slick (guitarist), Vinny Appice (drummer) and Henry ‘The Horse’ Smith (1981 tour manager).
The documentary looks to “set the record straight on the truth behind many famous Lennon moments.” Check out the trailer below:

The documentary follows Lennon from the release of his 1970 debut solo album ‘John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band’, until his death in 1980. During that time, Lennon released Paul McCartney diss track ‘How Do You Sleep?’ as well as powerful protest anthems ‘Power To The People’, ‘’Happy Xmas (War Is Over)’ and ‘Imagine’.
He also became embroiled in a legal battle with US President Richard Nixon, whose administration spent four years trying to deport Lennon. Borrowed Time will also explore his controversial relationship with Yoko Ono.
“For the first time ever, the full story of how John and Yoko met is revealed and watch as the curtain is lifted on the 1981 comeback tour that never came to be,” reads the documentary’s logline.

Last year, it was reported that Harris Dickinson will be playing John Lennon in Sam Mendes’ four-film series about The Beatles. The project was announced last February, and each film will focus on a different member of The Fab Four.
Responding to the rumours, Dickinson said: “It would be amazing to do that. I think the idea of Sam teaming up to do something like that would be incredibly exciting. Obviously, John Lennon is a very complex role, a pretty formidable force to try to do. It would be cool.”
Joseph Quinn is reportedly playing George Harrison in the films, Ridley Scott claimed that Paul Mescal will play Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr seemingly confirmed that Barry Keoghan has been cast as the drummer.
‘Borrowed Time: Lennon’s Last Decade’ will be coming to UK Cinemas from May 2, 2025.
