Paul Simon largely retired from touring in 2018, but continued performing at one-off occasions until he developed severe hearing lost in his left ear during the COVID-19 pandemic. Thanks to treatment at the Stanford Initiative to Cure Hearing Loss and adjustments to his onstage setup, the 83-year-old artist is now going back on the road with the A Quiet Celebration tour, during which he’ll play his 2023 album Seven Psalms in full.
The trek will visit North American theaters beginning April 4 in New Orleans and will continue through Aug. 3 in Seattle. Simon’s band for the shows will be Caleb Burhans (viola), Jamey Haddad (percussion), Gyan Riley (guitar), Mick Rossi (piano, keys), Andy Snitzer (saxophone), Nancy Stagnita (flute), Mark Stewart (guitar) and Eugene Friesen (cello), with Steve Gadd and Matt Chamberlain alternating on drums due to their availability.

Simon’s struggles with his hearing were chronicled in Alex Gibney’s 2023 documentary In Restless Dreams. The artist also spoke about treating the issue in an interview last year with CBS Mornings. On Feb. 16, he was joined by Sabrina Carpenter to open the 50th anniversary episode of Saturday Night Live with a surprise performance of Simon & Garfunkel’s “Homeward Bound.”
In addition to Seven Psalms, Simon will also play old favorites on A Quiet Celebration, tickets for which go on sale Feb. 21.
