Alan Duggan Borges has shared details of a new project called The Null Club, announcing a debut EP that features collaborations with members of The Horrors and Mandy, Indiana.
The artist is best known as a producer and the guitarist of Gilla Band – he founded the new project after spending recent years writing and producing music using an array of old synths, drum machines, and guitars.
The process saw him lean into genres like noise, techno and experimental hip hop, as well as post-punk. Now, he is set to release a self-titled debut EP under The Null Club.
Set for release on April 4, the EP is today (February 20) previewed by the debut single ‘Slip Angle’.
The track sees Duggan Borges team up with Valentine Caulfield – best known for her work with Mandy, Indiana – and captures an intense, head-turning feel. Check it out below.
The EP will also see collaborations with Faris Badwan of The Horrors and ELUCID of Armand Hammer.
It was mixed by Daniel Fox, who has also worked with Gilla Band, and mastered by Jamie Hyland (M(h)aol). Recording sessions for the release were held by Alan in his home, and rehearsal studio in Dublin, and vocals were provided from NYC, London, and Manchester.
The EP will be released on a limited run of 500 12” white label records – each hand-stamped by Alan and released independently on a label run by him and his wife. Visit here to pre-order.
“Spending time over the last few years learning about synthesis, production, and how to record has been an incredibly rewarding experience for Alan,” reads a new description. “This project has created an opportunity to explore genres and styles of music outside of Gilla Band that he’s never done before, as well as being completely in control of the production and instrumentation. It’s also been an opportunity to work with incredible artists who Alan truly admires and have had a massive influence.”
On top of the EP announcement and new single, the artist has also shared details of a number of solo shows across the UK and Ireland. These will see him “reworking the tracks from the EP live along with [playing] a number of unheard pieces of music”.
