Woody Harrelson has been a vocal cannabis advocate for decades, but even he knows his limits. And when it comes to the ultimate smoking session, there’s one icon he admits he just couldn’t keep up with.

“Bob Marley,” Harrelson replied without hesitation.
Colbert, 60, then took it a step further, asking if Harrelson thought he could go “toke-for-toke” with the late reggae legend. That’s where Harrelson tapped out.
“I don’t think so,” the Cheers alum admitted, adding that he used to hang out with Marley’s mother and still couldn’t keep up. “She was serious.”
Harrelson has long been open about his love for cannabis, even co-owning The Woods — a West Hollywood dispensary and consumption lounge. He’s also been active in marijuana legalization efforts and recently pushed for cannabis café legislation in California.
“The herb, it really is a unifying thing,” the Primetime Emmy Award winner said last week on The Joe Rogan Experience. “From the first time I tried it, I just felt such bonhomie, such compassion to everybody around me.” And while he once took a break from smoking for a few years, it was another famous toker, Willie Nelson, who ultimately got him back in the game. “I win a big hand [in poker], he hands it right to me, and I just grab it and take a big toke,” Harrelson recalled while chatting with CBS News in 2023. “And he goes, ‘Welcome home, son!’”
