The Warriors may have taken down the Knicks at Madison Square Garden, but Jennifer Hudson took an even bigger hit — literally.
On Tuesday, March 4, the 43-year-old Dreamgirls star was sitting courtside with boyfriend, Common, when Knicks guard Miles McBride lost control of the ball in the second quarter. The pass deflected straight into Hudson’s face, knocking her glasses sideways.

“Protect Jennifer Hudson! Protect Jennifer Hudson!” sports announcer Ian Eagle shouted during the live TNT broadcast, just as McBride, 24, ran over to check on her.
Hudson, looking stunned, quickly adjusted her glasses while the 52-year-old “Wise Up” rapper put his arm around her. “Oh no, not the glasses,” analyst Greg Anthony added. “Those look real expensive, too, partner.”
Fans wasted no time weighing in on the incident online.
“Common could have at least done a better job protecting his gal ,” one person wrote.
“Jennifer was about to cry ,” another pointed out.
“She’s gonna be talking about this for the next 2 weeks,” chimed in a third.
“Hazards of courtside seats, huh?” someone else said.
“This why I don’t like sitting court side Lmaooo because mid conversation you could get hit by the ball or player if you not paying attention,” added another.
The EGOT winner and Common (whose real name is Lonnie Lynn) first sparked dating rumors in 2022 while working on their film Breathe, but they didn’t confirm their relationship until two years later on The Jennifer Hudson Show.
“I’m in a relationship with one of the most beautiful people I’ve ever met in life,” Common said in January 2024. “She’s smart, she loves God — she has something real down-to-earth about her.”
As for Hudson’s take on the relationship? “Everything is wonderful,” she told People last year. “That’s all you need to know.”
