Neil Tennant of Pet Shop Boys and Bobby Gillespie of Primal Scream

Pet Shop Boys have shared a new remix of the Primal Scream track ‘Innocent Money’, featuring Neil Tennant on vocals.

The release comes as part of the ongoing ‘Come Ahead’ remix project – which sees Primal Scream share re-imagined versions of each song from their latest album.

The latest addition tackles the ‘Innocent Money’ track, and sees iconic band Pet Shop Boys put their own distinctive mark on the song, complete with Neil Tennant’s signature vocals. Check it out below to hear the Chicago-influenced acid house charm it puts on the original.

“When we were discussing possible remixers for the ‘Come Ahead’ album with our producer David Holmes I had a gut feeling that asking the Pet Shop Boys to remix ‘Innocent Money’ might be a good idea,” said Bobby Gillespie.

“I felt that the song’s marriage of a socially conscious lyric sung over an ecstatic, discofied string-laden stomping rhythm track might appeal to Neil and Chris’s sense of pop aesthetics. An added and unexpected fabulous bonus was that Neil sang on it and I get to duet with him – Neil, of course, having one of THE iconic British pop voices. Truly honoured!”

The remix of ‘Innocent Money’ comes following the Tim Goldsworthy remix of both ‘Ready To Go Home’ and ‘Love Ain’t Enough’, the Black Science Orchestra spin on ‘Love Insurrection, and Terry Farley and Wade Teo’s white label remix of ‘Ready To Go Home‘.

For the latter it came 35 years after Terry Farley first created the iconic ‘Loaded’ and ‘Come Together’ remixes for Primal Scream.

‘Come Ahead’ arrived in November and marked the 12th studio album from Primal Scream. It was given a four-star review from NME which read: “The point’s laid on a little too thick at times, and we could do with some punchier peaks to get our rocks off – ‘Heal Yourself’, for instance, plods a little and ‘Melancholy Man’ stumbles as something of an aimless dirge.

“Ultimately, though, ‘Come Ahead’ may have a whole lot of funk on its surface but still packs oodles of punk and grenades of protest in its trunk.”

The band are set to embark on a UK tour to celebrate the album, with the dates kicking off in Bristol at the end of the month. From there, the remainder of shows will take place in April, and include stops in Edinburgh, Birmingham, Liverpool, Manchester, Leeds and more.
