Billy Joel won’t be lighting up the stage for a few months — but he’s making sure fans know he’ll be back.

On Tuesday, March 11, the 75-year-old music legend took to Instagram to announce that his upcoming tour dates are being pushed back so he can recover from a recent surgery.

More from Spin:

“While I regret postponing any shows, my health must come first,” Joel wrote. “I look forward to getting back on stage and sharing the joy of live music with our amazing fans. Thank you for your understanding.”

According to a statement from his team, the “Uptown Girl” singer will undergo physical therapy under the supervision of his doctors before resuming the tour on Saturday, July 5 at Acrisure Stadium in Pittsburgh.

Fans wasted no time reacting in the comments section of Joel’s post.

“Get well soon.❤ Hoping you’ll be rocking and rolling in no time,” one person wrote.

“Take whatever time you need for you to heal. ❤ stay healthy. We need you around a long time,” another said.

“We want you to feel your best and to take care of yourself❤,” chimed in a third.

The news comes weeks after Joel took a fall during his concert at Mohegan Sun Arena, where he stumbled while performing “It’s Still Rock and Roll to Me.” The performer quickly recovered and finished the show.

While the details of Joel’s medical condition remain undisclosed, he has previously dealt with various health issues, including back problems that required surgery. In a 2021 interview on The Howard Stern Show, the musician opened up about the toll it took on him.

“I had back surgery early this year and the pain afterwards was so bad I lost my appetite,” Joel told host Howard Stern at the time. “I embraced that, I said, ‘Okay, I won’t eat as much’ and I ate less and less and less and less and then there was just life aggravation and that tends to, you know, impact your appetite too.”

Despite his ongoing health battles, Joel has always had a strong support system at home. He tied the knot with Alexis Roderick during their annual Fourth of July party in 2015. Together, they have two daughters, Della Rose, 9, and Remy Anne, 7. Roderick, 42, is also a stepmom to Joel’s eldest daughter, Alexa Ray, 40, whom he shares with ex-wife Christie Brinkley.
