The Inbetweeners stars James Buckley and Joe Thomas played Oasis‘ Liam and Noel Gallagher in a parody reunion film for Comic Relief. Check it out below.

It came after heavy hints earlier in the month pointed to Comic Relief planning something Oasis-related, before it was revealed that Buckley and Thomas would reunite on-screen for the charity show.

The sketch, titled ‘Oasis: The Reunion: The Movie’ aired on BBC One last night (March 21) and saw the actors, who formerly played Simon and Jay in The Inbetweeners take on the role of the Gallagher brothers.

It began by tracing their notorious breakup in 2009 to their reunion, announced last year, which – according to the film – came after Noel’s “credit card maxed out” and Liam’s accountant (played by money-saving expert Martin Lewis) informed the singer that he was “skint”, resulting in the brothers both being told to call each other in order to get “big money”.

Once they reconcile, they begin arguing over the setlist and getting the band back together by calling “everyone in Manchester”, including Happy MondaysBez and a handful of Coronation Street stars.

They then went on to poke fun at the band’s ticket fiasco, with Piers Morgan as “the ticket master” parodying the band’s dynamic pricing controversy that made headlines last year when tickets went on sale.

The sketch also showed a fan stuck in an extensive ticket queue until they turned into a skeleton before reaching the checkout page.

Other celebrity cameos, included Hugh Dennis, Micky Flanagan, Vernon Kay, Mark Silcox, Tasha Ghouri, Melvin Odoom, Tommy Fury and Roisin Conaty. Check it out below.

Reaction on social media has been mixed, with some positive responses on Twitter/X include fans calling it “absolute cinema”, “brilliant” and “lowkey funny”.

However, some were less than impressed, with one user saying it was “one of the unfunniest things I have ever seen on Comic Relief”, and another calling it “terrible”. Check out the responses below.

Back in 2021, Buckley did NME’s Soundtrack of My Life interview, and revealed the first gig he ever went to was was Oasis at Finsbury Park in 2002. “The first gig, and also the best gig I’ve ever been to,” he said at the time.

“The support was incredible: The CharlatansBlack Rebel Motorcycle ClubCornershopThe Coral… it felt like there were 30 bands playing that day. Doors were at midday, and I was like: ‘I gotta be there then, I don’t want to miss Oasis!’

“I thought that’s just what gigs were like, all the time. That night Oasis were the greatest band in the world. Watching them play live, it just completely made sense. A reunion sometime? I think if The Stone Roses reunited for a few gigs, then any band could.”

Now the reunion is a reality, NME has spoken to sources close to the upcoming tour, and  revealed details of who’ll be playing in the band line-up. They said Andy Bell will be on bass, Gem Archer and Paul “Bonehead” Arthurs on guitar, and Joey Waronker is set to be on drums.
