The Menstrual Cramps have put out a new statement, saying that they are looking for a new bassist to join the line-up.
The Bristol band shared the news via a social media statement yesterday (March 24), confirming that they are seeking out a full-time bassist following the departure of their current bandmate, Abi. According to the post, the decision was mutual and came as she wanted to explore new opportunities.
“We’ve got some big news – our bassist Abi has decided to step away from the band to focus on other things. We’re gutted to see her go but grateful for all the amazing times we’ve had together. We wish her all the best in her future endeavours,” the post began.
“However, we’re not slowing down! We’ve got a packed year with loads of shows booked, and luckily, some of our good friends will be stepping in to cover bass while we find the right person to join us full-time.”
Explaining what they are looking for in applicants, the band wrote: “We’re looking for someone who’s not just a bassist but also professional, flexible, and hungry to be part of something bigger.
“We take what we do seriously, but we have a blast doing it, and we need someone who’s ready to jump in, gig regularly, and grow with us. If that sounds like you (or someone you know), drop us a message,” it added.
“Must have a passport, gear, touring experience, and be politically charged. NO T.R.A.S.H (terfs, racists, ableists, sexists, homophobes).”
Applications and enquiries about the bassist role can be put forward to the band through their social media pages.
While they continue the search for a new bassist, The Menstrual Cramps are set to play a handful of shows across the UK. These include a show in Bristol later this week as part of the 2025 DIY punk all-day event Fishstock, which will be held on March 29.
From there, they’ll play at the Queer Punk All-Dayer in Haggerston on April 5 and the 2025 MPF Manchester Punk Festival on April 18. Other shows so far include a show at the Exchange in Bristol on June 21 and The Foundry in Torquay on August 29.
