Emerging from the creative confluence of Dublin, Belfast and London, M(h)aol (pronounced âmaleâ) donât just make post punk they wield it.
Their 2023 debut album âAttachment Stylesâ tackled intimacy, queerness and gendered violence with a cool almost floating vocal force, while their wiry, noise-drenched sound recalled the biting minimalism of early Savages or Big Joanie.
Across their work, theyâve never been afraid to call things as they are. That same directness fuels their new single, âDM:AMâ, a blistering one-take shot at the entitled men who clog womenâs inboxes with unsolicited and then aggressive messages.
Written and recorded in a single day, the track pulses with livewire energy â its scraping guitar lines and jagged rhythms collapsing into a claustrophobic churn as the band spit back at their subject matter.
âThereâs a cycle to these thingsâ, they explain. âFirst, they want your attention, then they want your silence. We wanted to capture that feeling â the relentless pressure, the expectation, and then the rage when they donât get what they wantâ.
