Xzibit seems to be teasing a return to the garage. The “What U See Is What U Get” rapper gave fans of his beloved MTV automotive makeover show Pimp My Ride some reason to get revved up when he posted an image on Instagram on Wednesday that suggested he’s rebooting the series.
“May 9th 2024,” he captioned the post, which featured a birds-eye view image of a classic cruiser featuring his name emblazoned on the hood in gold lettering, headlights burning, illuminating the words “It’s time to get back to customizing rides.”
At press time no additional information was available on the show or where it will air.
The original — which helped make the show’s title into a universal shorthand for junker rejuvenation — aired on MTV for six seasons from 2004-2007. Centered on the vehicular magicians at West Coast Customs — and later Galpin Auto Sports — the show featured the teams turning busted cars into four-wheel wonders, often with wildly unnecessary, but super cool accessories.
The comments on the post said it all, including, “NEED A FISH TANK AND A PS5 IN MY CAR!!!!” and “Does that include a waterfall in the car, a chocolate waterfall, a chandelier, flame thrower exhaust, possibly a pool table & the coffin grill!”
Though he’d had a few cameos in films before the series — including a memorable bit in Eminem’s 8 Mile — Pimp helped launch X into a Hollywood career. In the wake of the show, he’s co-starred in more than a dozen films, including XXX: State of the Union, The X-Files: I Want to Believe, The Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans and Malice n Wonderland as well as a run as rapper Shyne on music drama series Empire.
