T.O.P touched on long-awaited new solo music in a recent Instagram post, where he addressed the cancellation of the ‘dearMoon’ project. The moon trip, funded by Japanese billionaire Yusaku Maezawa, was originally set to launch in 2023 using a spacecraft developed by SpaceX.

The K-pop idol was first announced as one of eight civilian crew members of the project in December 2022. He would have been joined by Japanese-American DJ Steve Aoki, Indian actor Dev Joshi and rish photographer Rhiannon Adam, among others.

“Being selected as a ‘dearMoon’ crew member was one of the greatest honours of my life,” T.O.P wrote on Instagram. “I feel that my body and soul have forged a deep, direct connection with the moon. My imagination has expanded to places I would have never expected as I prepared for moon exploration.”

The musician added that the experience has had a “profound impact on my life and the music I make”, saying that the opportunity has “already inspired me to compose a lot of new music, some of which I look forward to sharing soon”.

“The ‘dearMoon’ mission made my dream to go to space, something that seemed completely impossible, to feel possible for the first time,” he continued. “This invaluable experience has changed my life and perspective forever. My dream to travel to the moon is not over.”

T.O.P is next set to appear in the upcoming second season of Netflix’s hit K-drama series, Squid Game. Earlier this year, Netflix dropped a teaser trailer for Squid Game season two, with star Lee Jung-jae telling Business Insider that it “will be released in December”.

Meanwhile, T.O.P confirmed in May 2023 that he had “withdrawn” as a member of Big Bang. At the same time, the musician said that he was “facing a new chapter in my life”.
