Sony Music Publishing Nashville has inked a go-forward and catalog deal with singer-songwriter Clint Black. The company will administer songs from the bulk of Black’s catalog, including hits such as “A Good Run of Bad Luck,” “Like the Rain” and “Nothin’ But the Taillights.” The deal does not include his first three albums.

“Clint Black is without a doubt a country music icon, whose songs carved a unique path and propelled country into what it is today,” said Sony Music Publishing Nashville CEO Rusty Gaston in a statement.  “We look forward to working with Clint and his team to extend his creative influence even further.”

Black added, “I have great respect for Rusty and the entire team at Sony Music Publishing Nashville, and I am excited to move forward on all things past, present and future!”

Black issued his debut album, Killin’ Time, in 1989. The project spurred four Billboard Hot Country Songs No. 1 hits, cementing the Texas native as a musician on the rise. Over the past 35 years, Black has earned 13 No. 1 Hot Country Songs hits as well as 30 top 10 hits on that chart. He has written or co-written nearly all of his hit songs.

“I set out to do that,” Black previously told Billboard. “I grew up reading liner notes and I wanted to know who was writing something I loved. I wasn’t trying to make any kind of statement, but I thought I could do it. And I saw an interview with Reba where she said she listened to about a thousand songs every time she wanted to make an album of 10 songs. That was terrifying to me. I thought, ‘Man, that’s a hard job. I’d rather do this other hard job and not have to go looking for songs.’ And I knew if I was successful in writing my own songs, I was going to need a lot of songs, if I was putting out an album every 18 months or so. I started writing a lot of songs, so that every time I had to make an album, I had at least 30 songs written that I wanted to record.”
