Perrie Edwards has revealed more information about embarking on her solo career following Little Mix‘s hiatus – see what she had to say below.
On the latest episode of the Dish podcast, Edwards opened up about her decision to begin a solo career. Speaking to hosts Nick Grimshaw and Angela Hartnett Perrie explained: “I think it was like a gradual thing. I don’t think it was like an overnight, ‘I’m gonna go solo now’, cause I never knew what I would do in my future.”
“I just knew that Little Mix had me tired. Yes, I think it kind of– well we lost a member. And then we were like, ‘Well, what do we do now, like, do we keep going? Do we not?’ And then we continued, we did another tour. And then it was kind of like the farewell.”
Edwards continued: “And the thing is, like, we love each other and we’re so supportive of each other and we just want to see each other win. So it wasn’t like, do you know what? You’re driving me nuts. I need a break. It was almost like we’ve done this for so long now, we were babies, like I was seventeen when I was put in the band.”
She then went on to say that she didn’t remember much of her life before joining the girl group: “It’s like, that’s all we ever knew in my life was Little Mix. That’s basically all I remember, like, I don’t really remember much of my life before them. And I think we just gradually came to like the decision that we were like, ‘Yeah, let’s try something new. Let’s do acting, let’s do singing, let’s do all these different things like fashion, whatever, that we wouldn’t have ever had time to do if we were still in the band.’”

Edwards first found fame in 2011, after winning The X Factor in 2011 as part of Little Mix. In 2021 they announced they’d be taking “a little break”, following a decade together, in order to focus on solo projects.
Prior to the announcement of their hiatus, Jesy Nelson left the group to embark on her own solo career, releasing ‘Boyz’, featuring Nicki Minaj. The track sparked controversy online due to Nelson being accused of blackfishing in the music video.
The remaining members – Leigh-Ann Pinnock and Jade Thirlwall – have all begun releasing solo projects. Pinnock took on an acting role in the Christmas movie Boxing Day, before signing to Warner Records. Thirlwall signed a global deal with RCA Records after writing songs for the likes of TWICE (‘First Time’), Iggy Azalea and Britney Spears (‘Pretty Girls’).
Edwards has since released two solo singles, ‘Forget About Us’, which was co-written by Ed Sheeran and ‘Tears’. She has also spoken about her upcoming debut album, which will feature a collaboration with RAYE.
