The opening night of the tour took place at the Chateau Ste. Michelle Winery Amphitheatre in Woodinville, Washington last Wednesday (July 3), before continuing over the weekend with a slot at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles on Saturday (July 6).
To open the show, Beck launched the set with ‘Cycle’, the opening track from ‘Morning Phase’, before progressing into ‘The Golden Age’ – taken from his 2002 album ‘Sea Change’. From there, other classics from his discography included ‘Lonesome Tears’, ‘Wave’, ‘Tropicalia’ and ‘Blue Moon’.
The orchestral gig also saw him break out four covers during his 21-song setlist, which he performed alongside an 80-piece symphony orchestra conducted by Scott Dunn. The first was a cover of The Korgis’ hit ‘Everybody’s Got To Learn Sometime’, which was later followed by a rendition of Colourbox’s ‘Tarantula’,
Two Scott Walker covers were also embedded into the Washington show, ‘It’s Raining Today’ and ‘Montague Terrace (In Blue)’.
Other tracks performed from the singer-songwriter’s back catalogue included ‘The New Pollution’, ‘Phase’, ‘Pater Tiger’, ‘Waking Light’, ‘Round the Bend’ and ‘Where It’s At’. Beck closed the show with an encore performance of his fan-favourite ‘Loser’, which was performed without the orchestra.

Now with two shows under his belt, Beck’s tour is set to continue tomorrow night (July 10) with a show at the William Randolph Hearst Greek Theatre, located in Berkeley, California. From there, the dates pick up again at the end of the month with remaining stops at the Tanglewood Music Center in Lenox and the TD Pavilion in Philadelphia.
Other shows include performances at the Filene Center in Vienna, Vancouver on July 27, and two stops at Carnegie Hall in New York on July 29 and 30 respectively. Visit here for remaining tickets.
Beck first gave us a taste of what to expect from his shows last month, when he made an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel and broke out a cover of his 2002 track ‘Paper Tiger’.
Before then, Beck appeared on the new single ‘Boom Boom Back’ from Spanish rock band Hinds. The collaboration came after Beck met the band by chance at a film screening in LA.
He hasn’t released an album since 2019’s ‘Hyperspace‘, which was a collaborative project with Pharrell. NME gave the record a four-star review and declared it a “daring new era” for the artist, with Elizabeth Audrey writing: “After a career spanning 30 years, Beck is still shape-shifting and proves, once again, that no genre isn’t malleable for him.”
