Mobile learning platform Duolingo has struck a partnership with Sony Music that will bring more than 60 recordings from Sony artists including Whitney Houston, Hozier, Pink and Meghan Trainor to Duolingo’s music education course, it was announced Thursday (Aug. 15).
The tracks, which are now available on the Duolingo platform, will help music learners “study the foundations of music and practice their music theory skills, such as reading music, understanding different note lengths, and differentiating notes by sounds, sight and key on a digital mobile piano,” according to a press release.
The list of available songs includes Houston’s “My Love Is Your Love” and “So Emotional”; Hozier’s “Work Song” and “Someone New”; P!nk’s “Get the Party Started” and “Funhouse”; Trainor’s “Made You Look”; Bleachers’ “Rollercoaster”; Cyndi Lauper’s “True Colors”; Cheap Trick’s “I Want You to Want Me”; TLC’s “Creep”; Train’s “Drops of Jupiter” and “Drive By”; Dove Cameron’s “Girl Like Me”; and many more.
“At Duolingo, we’re constantly looking for ways to make learning more effective and entertaining,” said George Audi, head of business development at Duolingo, in a statement. “We’re partnering with Sony Music, a leader in the music industry, to bring our learners a library of chart-topping songs they can learn to read and play.”
Added Jessica Shaw, senior vp of sync licensing at Sony Music: “Partnering with Duolingo gives us the opportunity to bring our artists’ music to a new platform that promotes learning and cultural exchange. Music has the power to unite and inspire, and this partnership will help learners engage with music education in a meaningful and enjoyable way.”
Duolingo launched its music education course last October.
