Texas rapper BeatKing has died at the age of 39.
The rapper and producer behind tracks like “Then Leave” and “Scream,” born Justin Riley, was a driving force in Houston’s underground scene. BeatKing’s passing was confirmed on Aug. 15, by his manager, Tasha Felder, in a statement posted to Instagram.
“Today, Aug. 15, 2024, we have lost BeatKing,” Felder wrote. “BeatKing has been the best part of the club for over a decade. He has produced and worked with so many artists that his sound will forever live. He loved his daughters, his music, and his fans. We will love him forever.”
The Houston, TX native was a staple in the city’s music scene, with his tracks often becoming the soundtrack for club-goers.
BeatKing’s influence extended beyond Houston, as he collaborated with notable artists like 2 Chainz, Moneybagg Yo, and Erica Banks. His distinctive style and ability to craft hits made him a beloved figure in the rap community.
BeatKing is survived by his daughters, who were often mentioned in his music and social media posts. Details about the cause of his death have not been released.
BeatKing’s most recent chart success came with “Then Leave,” which reached No. 3 on the Bubbling Under Hot 100 chart and No. 48 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart.
