This year has seen Deftones perform at Coachella, Primavera Sound and Lollapalooza. Last month, the band joined System Of A Down and The Mars Volta for a huge sold-out event at Golden Gate Park in San Francisco.

In September 2023, Deftones teased an upcoming full-length album – potentially slated for a 2024 release – which would follow on from 2020’s ‘Ohms’. Guitarist Stephen Carpenter said at the time that the group were “starting to work on new material for a new record”.

He continued: “It’s going good now. It was a little slow at first, but it always is; dragging our feet ain’t nothing new. But we’ve got stuff up and going now, and we’re on a good little momentum at the moment.

“And we hope to have it all done and out by next spring [or] summer. There’s nothing official – no official date yet – but that’s our goal.”

This April, Deftones gave fans an update on their new LP. “[We] have a whole record recorded all musically,” explained Moreno. “And it’s pretty much my job right now to finish up the vocals.”

But the vocalist said he didn’t want to” put a definite timeframe” on the album’s release, adding: “We’re not really in a rush. We want it to be great. I think that’s most important. But it is coming, and, yeah – it’s really good.”

Moreno also hinted at the musical direction Deftones would take with their next record, calling it an “invigorated” sound.

Later, it appeared that the frontman had been finishing off the project when a photo of him in a recording studio alongside producer Nick Raskulinecz emerged online. The latter previously worked on Deftones’ 2010 album ‘Diamond Eyes’ and 2012’s ‘Koi No Yokan’.

In other news, a recent study revealed that Deftones are the most popular metal band to listen to during sex.

Meanwhile, The Mars Volta have been embroiled in the controversy surrounding Linkin Park’s reunion.

The band’s new lead singer Emily Armstrong seemingly had ties to Scientology and convicted rapist Danny Masterson. This was brought to light after a message sent to the singer by Cedric Bixler-Zavala recirculated.

In another post shared by Bixler-Zavala, he wrote: “I fucking told you.” His wife, Chrissie Carnell Bixler, had accused Masterson of raping her while they were in a relationship, having testified in 2022. She previously issued a separate civil lawsuit against him.
