East Londonās Jeshi encapsulates the raw, inherently punk spirit of rap, offering up sharp commentary on British working-class reality.
On his latest single āSCUMBAGā, Jeshi links up with JD. REID to flip Dizzee Rascalās āStand Up Tallā into a gritty, glitchy rework fit for 2025. The grime classic gets twisted into something dark and futuristic, as Jeshiās bars pick apart the chaos of adolescence and the things we leave behind.
āāSCUMBAGā is about nostalgiaā, Jeshi says. āLooking back at the madness of being young, running around getting up to no good. Itās something I miss a lot, things being simpler and not having to care about everything as muchā.Ā
Jeshi is tapping into grimeās DNA, recharging it with his own perspective, and proving that the genreās evolution is in good hands.
His new album āAirbag Woke Me Upā is out 24 Jan.
