Nirvana‘s Dave Grohl, Krist Novoselic and Pat Smear were back on stage last night (Jan. 30) during the FireAid benefit at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles, drafting St. Vincent, Sonic Youth’s Kim Gordon, Joan Jett and Grohl’s teenage daughter Violet to supply vocals made famous by late frontman Kurt Cobain.
The surprise four-song set included “Breed” (sung by St. Vincent), “School” (sung by Gordon), “Territorial Pissings” (sung by Jett) and “All Apologies” (with Violet Grohl on vocals, Gordon on bass and Novoselic on accordion).

St. Vincent, Gordon and Jett had previously fronted Nirvana during the band’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony in 2014, and Jett also sang with the musicians at the Foo Fighters’ 2018 CalJam Festival.
FireAid, which was held simultaneously at Intuit Dome, featured performances by Lady Gaga, Billie Eilish, Stevie Wonder, Olivia Rodrigo, No Doubt, Stevie Nicks, and many others. The event raised funds in the wake of devastating wildfires in Los Angeles earlier this month.
