Confirming rumors that have swirled for months, legendary rock quartet Black Sabbath will play their final show this summer as part of a massive event in their Birmingham, England, hometown dubbed Back to the Beginning. Set for July 5 at Villa Park, it will mark Sabbath’s first appearance with their core lineup of vocalist Ozzy Osbourne, guitarist Tony Iommi, bassist Geezer Butler and drummer Bill Ward since 2005.
Rage Against the Machine’s Tom Morello will be the musical director, and promises it will be “the greatest heavy metal show ever” thanks to appearances by Metallica, Slayer, Anthrax, Pantera, Lamb of God, Mastodon, Alice in Chains and Gojira.

Smashing Pumpkins’ Billy Corgan, Guns N’ Roses’ Duff McKagan and Slash, Limp Bizkit’s Fred Durst, Korn’s Jonathan Davis, Faith No More’s Mike Bordin, Ghost’s Papa V Perpetua, Sammy Hagar and Wolfgang Van Halen will also make appearances.
“It’s my time to go Back to the Beginning — time for me to give back to the place where I was born,” said Osbourne, 76, who has been plagued with extensive health problems in recent years. “How blessed am I to do it with the help of people whom I love? Birmingham is the true home of metal. Birmingham Forever.”
Osbourne has only performed twice, and briefly, since late 2018. Tickets for Back to the Beginning go on sale Feb. 14. Proceeds will benefit Cure Parkinson’s, Birmingham Children’s Hospital and Acorn Children’s Hospice.
