A Bryan Adams gig in Australia has been cancelled due to a large sewer blockage caused by “fat, grease and rags”.
The artist, best known for hits like ‘Summer Of ‘69’ and ‘Run To You’, was set to take to the stage at the RAC Arena in Perth yesterday (February 9), but was forced to scrap the gig due to health and safety grounds.
According to reports from outlets including BBC News, the water corporation in the Western Australian city shared a warning, stating that a blocked main posed a risk of backing up the venue’s toilets.
The statement said that a fatberg – formed when oil, fat and grease bind and solidify with items like wet wipes or rags – was responsible for the disruption, and the decision to halt the show came after there had already been “several wastewater overflows” on the main road near the venue.
“We apologise for the inconvenience this has caused and will provide further updates as required,” the company said in a post on Facebook, also advising people in the area to avoid contact with the “pooled water” on the streets nearby.
Speaking about the last-minute postponement of the show (via BBC), Adams shared a statement with fans where he thanked them for their “patience and support” while they look for an alternative date for the gig.
“I’m really sorry we couldn’t make this happen tonight — I was so looking forward to seeing you all,” he added.
The promoter for the festival also added that they made “every effort” to keep the show running as planned, but the circumstances were “outside of the control of Bryan Adams, Frontier Touring and RAC Arena”. They also added that the cancellation was “bitterly disappointing”.
A replacement date for the Perth show has yet to be announced, and Bryan Adams is set to continue his tour with further stops in Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney later this week.

Later this spring, Adams is set to bring his ‘Roll With The Punches’ tour to UK cities – with the dates coming in support of his upcoming studio album of the same name.
