Whoopi Goldberg may have slowed down her acting career, but it seems like she’s still got some gas left in the tank to come back to a beloved franchise.
The 69-year-old actress attended the 2025 Oscars on Sunday, March 2, and was interviewed by Variety on the red carpet.

The interviewer asked Goldberg what her next acting role would be, to which she responded, “Who knows? Who knows? We’ll see,” she said before adding, “Hopefully, Sister Act 3.”
She also revealed that she is hoping the movie will “happen sometime this year” and that a final script had been submitted to Disney.
“It doesn’t matter what I think,” she told the outlet and added, “It only matters if Disney wants to do it.”
Users on Reddit and X (formerly Twitter) took to the comments section of a post about the sequel update to share their reactions to the news.
“We could’ve used this like 10-15 years ago. Don’t try n sell it to us now cause you need the extra money or whatever the case may be,” wrote one Reddit user that seemingly doesn’t care to see Goldberg reprise her role in the film.
A different user on X disagreed and wrote, “The world needs more Sister Act! Whoopi Goldberg is waiting, and so are we. Disney, make it happen!”
Another user on X simply wrote, “Hollywood: Get. New. Ideas.”
Sister Act and Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit premiered in 1992 and 1993, respectively. The original film was a box office success, grossing $231 million worldwide with a $31 million budget. Despite not being as commercially successful, the sequel was well received and helped launch the career of five-time Grammy Award winner Lauryn Hill.
