Lady Gaga has explained how upcoming album ‘Mayhem’ differs from her back catalogue. Find out what she had to say below.
The singer’s highly anticipated seventh album is set for release on Friday (March 7) and is available for pre-order here. It follows on from 2020’s ‘Chromatica’ and her Joker: Folie a Deux companion record ‘Harlequin’ which was released last year.
So far, Gaga has released three singles from the record: the hit collaborative track with Bruno Mars, ‘Die With A Smile’, ‘Disease’ and ‘Abracadabra’. She has also revealed the album’s full tracklist, which will include a feature from DJ and producer Gesaffelstein.
Now, in a new interview with Zane Lowe, the singer-songwriter has explained how the LP sits in her discography, and the different approach she has taken with it compared to her previous albums.
In a new teaser for her interview with Lowe for Apple Music, Gaga said: “‘Artpop’ [2013] was a vibe. ‘Joanne’ [2016] was a sound, ‘Chromatica’ [2020] had a sound all different [to the rest].
“‘The Fame Monster’ [2009]was more chaotic, ‘The Fame’ [2008] was theatrical pop, ‘Born This Way’ [2011], to me, had more of a metal-electro New York vibe to it,” she added. “So I actually made the effort when making ‘Mayhem’ to not do that. Not try to give my music an outfit.”
The full interview will be available at 10pm PT (6am GMT, Thursday March 6). Check out the teaser snippet below.

As well as preparing for the release of the new album, Lady Gaga has also delighted fans in Mexico by announcing that she will be performing in the country for the first time in 13 years.
The pop icon will be taking over the Estadio GNP Seguros in Mexico City on April 26, and it is expected to see multiple songs performed from the ‘Mayhem’ tracklist.
The news of that show came shortly after the ‘Paparazzi’ hitmaker announced that she would be performing a monumental free show to over a million fans at Copacabana Beach in Rio.
In other news, Gaga is set to pull double duty on Saturday Night Live (SNL) the day after ‘Mayhem’s launch, where she will host the long-running sketch show and perform as a musical guest.
She has also recently confirmed that the long-awaited sequel to her hit 2009 song ‘Telephone’ will happen.
