Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas Is You” is easily one of her most recognizable and successful songs, but she has been dealing with a lawsuit over the iconic track for years.

The copyright lawsuit against the 55-year-old songstress’s song was recently dismissed in court, according to a report by Billboard that was published on Thursday, March 20. The outlet revealed that Judge Mónica Ramírez Almadani had rejected the allegations against Carey on Wednesday, March 19.

More from Spin:

The legal battle began when country singer Vince Vance of the band Vince Vance & the Valiants — who also have a song titled “All I Want for Christmas Is You” — accused Carey of exploiting his style and popularity. Almadani referenced a musicologist’s evidence that determined the only similarity between the songs was “commonplace Christmas song clichés.”

Vince Vance, whose real name is Adam Stone, was court-ordered to repay Carey for the bills she incurred during the legal battle that has been ongoing since 2022.

Fans of the “We Belong Together” singer took to the comment section of a post about the news that was posted on X (formerly Twitter) to share their reactions to the verdict.

“Congratulations, Mariah!!! So glad the judge threw this lawsuit out of court. Everyone knows Mariah is one of the greatest songwriters of all time. Thankfully, they are making him write MC a check for wasting her time! Mariah should sue him for defamation, but our queen is too kind,” wrote one of her fans.

A second fan noted, “The dumbest lawsuit ever. It had the same title, which happens often. The beat, melodies, lyrics, and arrangements sounded nothing alike. I don’t know why they wasted her time. I never heard of the song until LeAnn Rimes covered it on her Xmas album, and I thought it was new.”

A third fan simply wrote, “Don’t f**k with the queen!”“All I Want for Christmas Is You” — which is considered a modern-day Christmas classic—was released in 1994 and has taken the number one spot on the Billboard Hot 100 for the last six years.
